Committees

Camera Trapping Committee
Contact: Jake Carter

The Camera Trapping Committee was founded last year to help with The Wildlife Society's main research project. This project was started five years ago by our advisor, Dr. Marcella Kelly. The project is focused on capturing bobcats, but several studies have coincided within the last couple of years. The committee members will assist myself in checking cameras and maintaining the stations. Members may also have the chance to help with data analysis after the study is completed.

Fundraising and Advertising Committees
Contact: Julie Melton

Fundraising committee's goal is to implement successful fundraisers so that our chapter can participate in many exciting activities such as conclave and other special events. We have many planned for this semester, including Wildlife-a-thon and bake sales. Advertising committee handles all the advertising of our chapter. We design fliers for the meetings and special events and then post them around campus. Emails are also distributed via the VTTWS, CNR, and Biology listservs. We also maintain all of the bulletin boards and display cases in Cheatham.

Education Committee
Contact: Jake Mc Pherson

The education committee's major responsibility is to organize and hold outreach programs that offer local students and members of other youth organizations a chance to further their knowledge and appreciation of wildlife. We work closely with teachers and group leaders to meet specific education needs such as certain SOL goals and topics. It is our mission to make these interactions as fun filled and hands on as possible. Some activities include the presentation of live and preserved specimen as well as interactive lectures focusing on important wildlife topics.

Activities Committee
Contacts: Katie Staples and Alyssa Neurock

The professional development aspect of the Activities Committee is an important focus for anyone looking for work in the wildlife field. Our goal is to get everyone involved in some sort of volunteer and/or research experience, wildlife science major or not. We are constantly looking for new opportunities and listening to new ideas, and anyone who wants to help find, organize, and plan these events is welcome to talk to us.
The fun activities part of the Activities Committee plans social events for The Wildlife Society. We aim to have at least one per month. Past activities include the National TWS Conference, tubing the New River, and a pizza social. Future events include camping, visiting a pumpkin patch and corn maze, and an orienteering workshop.
The Southeastern Conclave occurs in the spring and requires a lot of prior planning and fundraising. We are in charge of organizing our group this year and anyone interested should contact us as soon as possible so we can get started. We're looking forward to a great year! Get involved and stay involved!
